My approach is to start where you are, discuss your goals and intentions for coming to therapy, and explore past experiences as they relate to your situation now in a supportive and collaborative way. I have specialized training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). I am certified in perinatal mental health by Postpartum Support International.
My sessions with clients are integrative and range from engaging in traditional talk therapy to sharing stress relief tools such as breathing or body based practices, mindfulness techniques, or using art to help clients gain perspective on what they are experiencing, get centered, and envision changes they would like to see in their lives.
Some people find art therapy to be especially helpful for expressing feelings that may go beyond words, for meaning making, problem solving, stress reduction, self esteem building, and for gaining a new perspective on a situation. A person does not need to be an artist to benefit from the use of art therapy.
